Ever wondered if you’ve taken a “bad remedy”?
Many clients arrive in my practice believing that we’re on a quest for one single, perfect remedy that matches every symptom. Or they assume there are “good remedies” and “bad remedies.”
But homeopathy works differently. The truth is: even when a remedy isn’t the final one you’ll need, it still points the way forward.
Dr. James Compton Burnett—one of the greats in our field—famously asked: “Which rung of the ladder was the one that got you to the top?”
He saw remedies not as isolated “hits” or “misses,” but as a ladder. Each well selected remedy—whether partial, complementary, or deep-acting—helps the body climb step by step toward cure. Burnett’s methods of layering remedies in a series, adjusted in potency and chosen for the individual case, allowed him to address some of the most difficult pathologies.
He pioneered work in treating cancer, explored the concept of vaccinosis within miasms, and further developed work in remedies like Bacillinum, Ceanothus, Urtica, Nat mur, and Thuja. His curiosity and precision continue to inspire my own practice today.
So, what about “bad remedies”?
In my view, they don’t really exist.
Yes—an uninformed or careless prescription can cause confusion. But in the hands of a skilled homeopath, even a partial match creates momentum.
Here’s why:
- The body resonates with the aspects of the remedy that do match.
- The unmatched symptoms don’t disappear—they rise to the surface, louder and clearer.
- This clarity helps me identify the next, more precise remedy—the next rung on the ladder.
Even discomfort after a partial remedy isn’t wasted; it’s the body saying: “Look here. This needs your attention.”
Just as success in life comes through trial, refinement, and learning along the way, so too does homeopathic healing. Remedies teach us. They sharpen our understanding. They reveal what truly needs to be cured.
And that’s why I don’t fear the so-called “bad remedy.”
I actually love when clients experience this, because it means the body is speaking more clearly, and we’re closer to uncovering the true path to wholeness.
